Fair Day

Everyone who grew up in Edmonson County knows all about "Fair Day"...one Friday in September that school is out so everyone can enjoy the fair.  Those from other counties just don't get it...I think they're just jealous. ;)  We hadn't been able to go to the fair for a year or two, so Jacob was excited this year.  We headed to B-ville, found our own little patch of sidewalk and waited.

Watching to see what pops over the hill next...
Each time a high school float would pass, we would hear Matthew's name being yelled out.  It appears I have a popular fella.  This is the Senior float and several of the class' peer tutors were riding...
(Not to leave him out...Jacob's name was hollered just as many times by friends and teachers as they would pass as well.  I just thought it was sweet that so many of the high school kids acknowledged Matthew.)
This was one of mine and Jacob's favorite parade entries...
We headed to the fairgrounds a little later and took a look around the exhibit barn first.  Jacob won FOUR ribbons!  Red ribbon for his groups' collaborative music piece...
Blue ribbon for his Haiku...
Red ribbon for his handwriting...
Blue ribbon for his drawing...
We also ran into this little cutie...
She is a little DOLL!
Jacob got an armband and he went down the big slide first.  After that, I noticed that Matthew was being eaten alive by some type of bug.  He had no less than eight bites on one arm and was miserable due to itching so much.  We ended up leaving and taking him to the shop so he could stay with Grandpa and I took Jacob back to get his $10 worth of rides in.  This little roller coaster was his favorite.  He rode it eight or nine times and would get off and get right back on.
He did right the berry spin ride with his buddy Robert once.

Of course, Jacob wanted to play games before we left.  We made an agreement that if he won a fish, he would have to turn it loose in the pond behind the shop.  Well, he won a fish.  He kept it in his bag for the rest of the evening, but we finally talked him into turning him loose.  Here he is setting him free...
My favorite part of the fair was leaving with about eight caramel apples and four bags of cotton candy that we were taking back to everyone at the shop.  I was HUGELY disappointed that they no longer have the same caramel apples though. :(  My favorite thing about the fair and they had to go and change the stinking caramel.
